When looking at posts about English learning on social media, I sometimes feel a sense of discomfort. Personally, I often feel that the subject of "English learners" is just too broad.
People learn English for entirely different reasons. Some want to enjoy casual conversations even in broken English, some need formal expressions for business, and others simply want to enjoy movies or books without any desire to speak. Since our goals and personalities are so different, the methods we choose will naturally vary from person to person.
For example, reading aloud is a highly recommended practice. While it helps intermediate and advanced learners improve their rhythm and pronunciation, a beginner reading slowly with Japanese Katakana pronunciation might just end up reinforcing bad habits. Of course, this isn't limited to reading aloud; there is no universal, all-powerful study method that solves everything on its own.
This is similar to the discomfort of generalizing people by "generation" or "gender." While there may be overall trends, applying highly specific rules to individuals usually doesn't work. When the subject is very broad, the only advice that truly applies to everyone is highly abstract—like "increase your study time" or "keep a good balance."
If I were to add one more general principle of learning that applies to everyone, it would be the process of "first understanding correctly, then practicing repeatedly until you can do it unconsciously (automatization)."
Trying to force a very specific learning method onto a broad group of "English learners" inevitably creates a mismatch. There is no magic learning method that suits everyone. I believe the most important thing is to determine what you currently need and then choose the appropriate learning methods based on that.
